The Consequences of Lying

Why Lie?Why would you deliberately give someone the wrong impression? What would make you alter or exaggerate the facts? Why would you present a false picture?
Whether you call them white lies, fibs, half-truths or exaggerations, lying is lying.
For example, you spill some water on your office's copy machine and it makes a funny sound. Just as you leave the room to find a towel, your boss walks in and tries to make a copy.
He says, "Hey! Why isn't the copier working? And who spilled this water?"
You shrug and mumble, "Umm, don't know" as your face turns red.
You wonder, "Why did I just lie to my boss?"
"Lies are told because one is afraid of the consequences* should one tell the truth." -- L. Ron Hubbard (*consequences = effects, results)
You cannot face what will happen, so you lie. You are afraid of the consequences for telling the truth, such as these:
* Your status may suffer
* You may be punished
* You will look stupid
* Someone will get angry
* You would have to admit you were wrong
However, lying can have far worse consequences!
Results of Lying
Lying causes anxiety, depression and physical illness. You constantly worry your lies will be revealed. Keeping your stories straight requires a lot of work.
After you lie to someone, you may not like being around that person. Lies ruin friendships, work relationships and marriages.
If someone catches you lying, he or she won't easily believe you again. Your status in that person's eyes drops to zero.
How to Tell the Truth Despite the Consequences
You lie because you are afraid of what might happen, if you tell the truth. You're afraid you can't handle the consequences. But then the lie becomes a problem and you suffer worse consequences.
So instead of worrying about the consequences as your first priority, make it your second priority. Tell the truth as your first priority and then deal with the consequences.
1. Tell the truth.
2. Immediately face the consequences.
3. Relax.For example, you spill water on the copier.
Your boss walks in and tries to make a copy.Your boss says, "Hey! Why isn't the copier working? And who spilled this water?" Instead of worrying about getting in trouble, you make the truth your first priority."I did."You then deal with the consequences."I'm soooo sorry! I'll be responsible for it. I'm getting a towel and will be right back!"You told the truth and will soon be through the ordeal. No lie to cover up. Your boss may yell, but will also appreciate your honesty.
Seven Benefits of Telling the Truth
1. Because you tell the truth, you don't have to remember what you said to whom. You won't accidentally contradict yourself.
2. You earn the reputation as an honest person. If you are a manager, your staff members tell each other, "Our boss might be more honest about your work than you sometimes want to hear, but it's better to know the truth."
3. People follow your example and are more truthful to you.
4. Your stress level drops. You sleep better, eat better and look better.
5. You can look at yourself in the mirror. Lying causes self-criticism and depression. Honesty causes self-confidence and pride.
6. You are more persuasive. To be persuasive, you need to be believable. To be believable, you must be truthful.
7. Best of all, you are trustworthy. When people can trust you, you earn their support. You need peoples' support to reach your goals.

Life's Storms - A testimony of faith

LIFE'S STORMSA
Pastor had been on a long flight between church conferences. The firstwarning of the approaching problems came when the sign on the airplaneflashed on: Fasten Your Seat Belts. Then, after a while, a calm voice said,"We shall not be serving the beverages at this time as we are expecting alittle turbulence.
Please be sure your seat belt is fastened."As the pastor looked around the aircraft, it became obvious that many of thepassengers were becoming apprehensive.And then the storm broke ...The ominous cracks of thunder could be heard even above the roar of theengines. Lightning lit up the darkening skies, and within moments that greatplane was like a cork tossed around on a celestial ocean.
One moment the airplane was lifted on terrific currents of air; the next, it dropped as ifit were about to crash.The pastor confessed that he shared the discomfort and fear of those aroundhim. He said, "As I looked around the plane, I could see that nearly all thepassengers were upset and alarmed. Some were praying. The future seemedominous and many were wondering if they would make it through the storm.
"Then, I suddenly saw a little girl. Apparently the storm meant nothing toher. She had tucked her feet beneath her as she sat on her seat; she wasreading a book and every- thing within her small world was calm and orderly."Sometimes she closed her eyes, then she would read again; then she wouldstraighten her legs, but worry and fear were not in her world.
When the plane was being buffeted by the terrible storm when it lurched this way andthat, as it rose and fell with frightening severity, when all the adultswere scared half to death, that marvelous child was completely composed andunafraid.
" The minister could hardly believe his eyes.It was not surprising therefore, that when the plane finally reached itsdestination and all the passengers were hurrying to disembark, our pastorlingered to speak to the girl whom he had watched for such a long time.Having commented about the storm and the behavior of the plane, he asked whyshe had not been afraid.The child replied, "
Cause my Daddy's the pilot, and he's taking me home!!!!
"There are many kinds of storms that buffet us. Physical, mental, financial,domestic, and many other storms can easily and quickly darken our skies andthrow our plane into apparently uncontrollable movement. We have al l knownsuch times, and let us be honest and confess, it is much easier to be atrest when our feet are on the ground than when we are being tossed about adarkened sky.Let us remember: GOD, our Father is the Pilot. He is in control and taking ushome. Don't worry!

Gender of Computer

An interesting question :What is the gender of Computer?

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.
'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa.'
'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz..'
A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'
Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun.
Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and 4.. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it. (THIS GETS BETTER!)
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;
2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and 4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.
The women won.

4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
FIRST Emergency
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.
SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having todrive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!'
THIRD Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.
FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
ATM - PIN Number Reversal - Good to Know
If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN # in reverse. For example, if your pin number is 1234, then you would put in 4321. The ATM system recognizes that your PIN number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to the location. This information was recently broadcast on CTV by Crime Stoppers however it is seldom used because people just don't know about it. Please pass this along to everyone.
This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends

TEACHER: What a pair of strange socks you are wearing, one is green and one is blue with red spots! BALGOBIN: Yes it's really strange. I've got another pair just like that at home.
GEORGE WASHINGTON
TEACHER: "George Washington not only chopped down his father's Cherry tree, but also admitted doing it. Now do you know why his father didn't punish him?" BALGOBIN: "Because George still had the axe in his hand?"

GO SLOW
TEACHER: Why are you late? BALGOBIN: Because of the sign. TEACHER: What sign? BALGOBIN: The one that says, "School Ahead, Go Slow."
DRUNK ?
Nelson got arrested and was brought before the Judge. 'Who brought you in?' asked the Judge. 'Two policemen, Sir.' 'Drunk, I assume?' 'Both of them, Your Honour, both of them.'
HIT BACK
The scene in the film was tense and the audience sat enthralled. Suddenly, the hero slapped the heroine on the face. In the silence that followed, a young voice piped up: 'Why doesn’t she hit back like you do, mummy?'

SUB: KNOW YOUR CUSTOMERS:
A disappointed salesman of Coca Cola returns from his Middle East assignment.A friend asked, "Why weren't you successful with the Arabs?" The salesman explained "When I got posted in the Middle East, I was very confident that I would make a good sales pitch as Cola is virtually unknown there. But, I had a problem I didn't know to speak Arabic. So, I planned to convey the message through three posters... First poster: A man lying in the hot desert sand...totally exhausted and fainting. Second poster: The man is drinking our Cola. Third poster: Our man is now totally refreshed. And Then these posters were pasted all over the place "Then that should have worked!" said the friend.
"The hell it should had!? said the salesman. didn't realize that Arabs read from right to left" COURTESY: Mr. SANKAR HMILHEALTH
I would like to share this interesting discovery from a classmate's son who has just recovered from Dengue Fever. Apparently, his son was in the critical stage at the ICU when his blood platelet count drops to 15 after 15 liters of blood transfusion. His father was so worried that he seeks another friend's recommendation and his son was saved. He confessed to me that he gave his son raw juice of the papaya leaves. From a platelet count of 45 after 20 liters of blood transfusion, and after drinking the raw papaya leaf juice, his platelet count jumps instantly to 135. Even the doctors and nurses were surprised. After the second day he was discharged. So he asked me to pass this good news around.
Accordingly it is raw papaya leaves, 2-pcs just cleaned and pound and squeeze with filter cloth. You will only get one tablespoon per leaf. So two tablespoon per serving once a day. Do not boil or cook or rinse with hot water, it will loose its strength. Only the leafy part and no stem or sap. It is very bitter and you have to swallow it like "Won Low Kat". But it works. *PAPAYA JUICE - CURE FOR DENGUE* You may have heard this elsewhere but if not I am glad to inform you that papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. As dengue fever is rampant now, I think it's good to share this with all. A friend of mine had dengue last year.. It was a very serious situation for her as her platelet count had dropped to 28,000 after 3 days in hospital and water has started to fill up her lung. She had difficulty in breathing. She was only 32-year old. Doctor says there's no cure for dengue. We just have to wait for her body immune system to build up resistance against dengue and fight its own battle. She already had 2 blood transfusion and all of us were praying very hard as her platelet continued to drop since the first day she was admitted. Fortunately her mother-in-law heard that papaya juice would help to reduce the fever and got some papaya leaves, pounded them and squeeze the juice out for her. The next day, her platelet count started to increase, her fever subside. We continued to feed her with papaya juice and she recovered after 3 days ! Amazing but it's true. It's believed one's body would be overheated when one is down with dengue and that also caused the patient to have fever papaya juice has cooling effect. Thus, it helps to reduce the level of heat in one's body, thus the fever will go away. I found that it's also good when one is having sore throat or suffering from heat.. Please spread the news about this as lately there are many dengue cases. It's great if such natural cure could help to ease the sufferings of dengue patients. Furthermore it's so easily available. Blend them and squeeze the juice! It's simple and miraculously effective!

super volcano

What is a super volcano? A super volcano is the most destructive force on this planet. Only a few exist in the world and when they erupt they do so with a force tens of thousands of times greater than other eruptions. They lie dormant for hundreds of thousands of years as a vast reservoir of magma builds up inside them before finally they unleash their apocalyptic force, capable of obliterating continents. They threaten the survival of mankind. What happened during the last eruption of a super volcano?The last eruption of a super volcano was in Toba, Sumatra, 75,000 years ago. It had 10,000 times the explosive force of Mount St. Helens and changed life on Earth forever. Thousands of cubic kilometres of ash was thrown into the atmosphere - so much that it blocked out light from the sun all over the world. 2,500 miles away 35 centimetres of ash coated the ground. Global temperatures plummeted by 21 degrees. The rain would have been so poisoned by the gasses that it would have turned black and strongly acidic. Man was pushed to the edge of extinction, the population forced down to just a couple of thousand. Three quarters of all plants in the northern hemisphere were killed. What causes super volcanoes?Super volcanoes differ from normal volcanoes in many ways. The stereotypical volcano is a towering cone, but super volcanoes form in depressions in the ground called calderas. When a normal volcano erupts lava gradually builds up in the mountain before releasing it. In super volcanoes when magma nears the surface it does not reach it, instead it begins to fill massive underground reservoirs. The magma melts the nearby rock to form more extremely thick magma. The magma is so viscous that volcanic gasses that normally trigger an eruption cannot pass, so a massive amount of pressure begins to build up. This continues for hundreds of thousands of years until an eruption occurs, which blasts away a huge amount of ground, forming a new caldera. Where are there other super volcanoes?Not all super volcanoes have been found, but one of the largest is in Yellowstone Park, USA. Scientists searching for the caldera in the park could not see it because it was so huge - only when satellite images were taken did the scale of the caldera become apparent - the whole park, 85km by 45km, is one massive reservoir of magma. The idyll landscape of Yellowstone (below) could soon explode with devastating consequences.

When will it next erupt?Scientist have discovered that the ground in Yellowstone if 74cm higher than in was in 1923 - indicating a massive swelling underneath the park. The reservoir is filling with magma at an alarming rate. The volcano erupts with a near-clockwork cycle of every 600,000 years. The last eruption was more than 640,000 years ago - we are overdue for annihilation. What would be the effect of an eruption?Immediately before the eruption, there would be large earthquakes in the Yellowstone region. The ground would swell further with most of Yellowstone being uplifted. One earthquake would finally break the layer of rock that holds the magma in - and all the pressure the Earth can build up in 640,000 years would be unleashed in a cataclysmic event. Magma would be flung 50 kilometres into the atmosphere. Within a thousand kilometres virtually all life would be killed by falling ash, lava flows and the sheer explosive force of the eruption. Volcanic ash would coat places as far away as Iowa and the Gulf of Mexico. One thousand cubic kilometres of lava would pour out of the volcano, enough to coat the whole of the USA with a layer 5 inches thick. The explosion would have a force 2,500 times that of Mount St. Helens. It would be the loudest noise heard by man for 75,000 years, the time of the last super volcano eruption. Within minutes of the eruption tens of thousands would be dead. The long-term effects would be even more devastating. The thousands of cubic kilometres of ash that would shoot into the atmosphere could block out light from the sun, making global temperatures plummet. This is called a nuclear winter. As during the Sumatra eruption a large percentage of the world's plant life would be killed by the ash and drop in temperature. Also, virtually the entire of the grain harvest of the Great Plains would disappear in hours, as it would be coated in ash. Similar effects around the world would cause massive food shortages. If the temperatures plummet by the 21 degrees they did after the Sumatra eruption the Yellowstone super volcano eruption could truly be an extinction level event.
YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO OBSERVATORY MONTHLY UPDATEFriday, May 1, 2009 11:17 MDT (Friday, May 1, 2009 17:17 UTC)YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO (CAVW#1205-01-)44.43°N 110.67°W, Summit Elevation 9203 ft (2805 m)Volcano Alert Level: NORMALAviation Color Code: GREENApril 2009 Yellowstone Seismicity SummaryDuring the month of April 2009, 242 earthquakes were located in the Yellowstone region. The largest event was a magnitude 2.7 on April 28 at 7:14 PM MDT, located about 6 miles north northeast of Old Faithful, YNP. A second M 2.7 was part of a swarm detailed below. There were three earthquake swarms during the month of April. The first, located 4 miles northwest of West Yellowstone, included 62 events spanning April 13-18 with magnitudes ranging from 1.3 to -0.6. The second, located 7 miles northwest of West Yellowstone, included 111 events from April 17-24 with magnitudes 2.3 to -0.8. The third swarm, located 11 miles northeast of Old Faithful, included 19 events all occurring on April 29th with magnitudes ranging from 2.7 to 0.5.Earthquake activity in the Yellowstone region is at relatively normal background levels.An article on the recent earthquake swarm during December 2008 and January 2009 can be found at: http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/yvo/publications/2009/09swarm.phpScientists continue to look at data collected during the swarm and will publish their results over the coming months and years. However, if any findings have direct implications for public safety, they will be released to the public immediately.Ground Deformation Summary: Through April 2009, continuous GPS data show that much of the Yellowstone caldera continued moving upward, though at a lower rate than the past several years. The WLWY station, located in the northeastern part of the caldera has undergone ~23 cm of uplift since mid-2004. The general uplift of the Yellowstone caldera is of scientific importance and will continue to be monitored closely by YVO staff.
